Aquarium & Pond Cleaning & Maintenance

The Ultimate In Aquatic Care

After every clean we test for 7 components that may be within your aquarium water. Below is a list of these components and why it's important to have them tested. In some instances, not all of these tests will need to be conducted.

pH (Potential Hydrogen) - Low & High Range

There are 3 ranges of pH - Acidic, Neutral & Basic. The pH level in your aquarium is one of the most important components that needs to be tested weekly and before adding new fish as many biological processes depend on the pH level. One of which is ammonia, this test is described below. If your pH is high, the level of ammonia in your tank increases dramatically.

KH/GH - Carbonate & General Hardness

The General Hardness test will measure all the dissolved salts in the aquariums water. Carbonate Hardness tests the buffering capacity. Both are important to the fish health and well being.

NH3/NH4 - Ammonia

Having excessive amounts of Ammonia in an aquarium can cause many problems with your fish. Ammonia is produced from the decay of waste product within the water and is highly toxic.

NO2 - Nitrite

Nitrite occurs most commonly during the first cycle of a new aquarium.High levels of Nitrite are toxic and causes big problems for fish. Once the aquarium is stable the Nitrite will turn into Nitrate.

NO3 - Nitrate

Nitrate testing measures the maturity of the water within the aquarium. When the Nitrate is within an appropriate range less stress is placed on the fish and they have a better chance of fighting off diseases.

Ca - Calcium

Aquarium water with low levels of Calcium will decrease growth and reduce the fish immune system. Calcium is essential to the fish skeletal system.

PO4 - Phosphate

Aquarium water with high amounts of Phosphate will tend to have large amounts of unsightly algae. Phosphate is generated from fish faeces, too much food and decaying plants and fish.

If any of the test results indicate that these problems exist within your aquarium we will proceed to rectify the issues and advise on how this problem can be prevented.
